Wells Chapel Youth Attends Baptist
Youth Day at Carowinds
On Thursday August 7th, 2008
the children and youth groups of Wells Chapel attended
Big Youth Thing, A day for Baptist youth, at
Carowinds Amusement Park in Charlotte. A bus load
of youth and leaders followed by two personal vehicles
left the church around 5am. Everyone thoroughly
enjoyed themselves during a fun day on the rides
followed by a concert by mercyme. The group
arrived back at the church around 2am on Friday Morning.
It was a great way to end the summer!
Church Youth Camp Is Greatly
Successful
June 10th - 14th was our church youth camp.
The theme was Wake Up, Wise Up! We had
around 40 children and youth that participated in the
camp. All of the bible lessons were from Proverbs
and many activities and games were planned around the
theme. As a result of the camp we had six children
and youth to ask Christ into their hearts followed by
another on Sunday Morning. We also had a family to join
the fellowship of Wells Chapel. A baptismal
service will be held sometime in July. Praise God
for what He has done! Special thanks to Pastor Ben
and Ms. Amy, all of the camp counselors and volunteers,
and also to Lenny and Wanda Taylor for providing meals
to everyone during the week. We are already
looking forward to next year!
New Church Year is Celebrated!
On Saturday, August 25th 2007 we celebrated our
New Church Year at Wells Chapel with a kick-off
celebration. Many members and special guests were in
attendance as we enjoyed a cook-out complete with games
for the children, youth, and adults and lots of good
fellowship. Home-made ice cream was served as
dessert. We look forward to Our LORD continuing to do
great things through Wells Chapel Baptist Church. We are
ready and prepared to do HIS work and worship and draw
closer to HIM this new Church Year. Come and be a part
of the fellowship of believers at Wells Chapel!

251st Anniversary Celebration/Land Dedication
On Sunday, July 8th 2007 we
celebrated our 251st anniversary of the Worship of
God at Wells Chapel. Special Music was provided by 9
year old Patric Heath. He sang "Each
One Can Reach One." Also, "Daddy's Hands" was
sung by "So Blessed" (Greg Mott and Allyson Moore).
A brief history of the Church was read by Carolyn
Mintz. History of the land was read by Mary
Ellen Vette. The Land Dedication was conducted
by Jim Moody, our Chairman of the Deacons. The
trustees joined him at the front of the Church to
accept the deed of the new property. The land
was given to Wells Chapel by Timothy and Daniel
Wells in memory of their father, Dan Wells.
Mr. Moody presented a plaque to Timothy and Daniel
in appreciation of their generosity. "We
accept this gift of land on behalf of the members of
Wells Chapel Baptist Church. It will be used
to glorify God's Kingdom. We accept this
land and dedicate it to the glory of God. May
He bless it for His use and consecrate it for his
purpose. We thank you very much," said
Moody. After the dedication, the message was spoken
by Jimmy Newkirk who grew up in Wells Chapel.
After the service a covered dish lunch was served
and a time of fellowship was well enjoyed.
Wells Chapel
Brotherhood on the move for Christ
On May 18, the Wells Chapel Baptist
Church Brotherhood gathered together and built a
wheelchair ramp for Pat Murphy of Wallace. "Miss
Pat" recently underwent knee surgery. She and
her husband Doug were very appreciative to the men
for building the ramp. The Wells Chapel
Brotherhood have built several wheelchair ramps
throughout the community, as well as helping with
construction in Riegelwood after the tornadoes.
Also, some members of the Brotherhood have been on
mission trips to the Dominican Republic, Gulf Coast,
and locations here in North Carolina that have
suffered disasters. These men love the Lord and
enjoy helping others in the name of Christ.
They share God's love wherever they go and say they
receive a blessing in helping others. They are
definitely on the move for Christ! Those who
helped construct the wheel chair ramp were Mark
Heath, Billy Ivey, Percy Carter, Greg Mott, Edward
Thornton, Jr., Harry Hoover, Jim Moody, and Jerry
Mack Carter. Thanks to all of you for the mission
work you do!
Wells Chapel
observes National Day of Prayer
We had a wonderful, spirit filled Prayer
Service in observance of National Day of Prayer. Many
prayers were lifted up. The service was opened with the
hymn, Sweet Hour of Prayer. Kathy Newkirk,
WMU director, led the service. Our troops, our
nation's leaders, fire fighters, nurses and caregivers,
VA Tech tragedy, and special requests were among the
many things prayed for. Patty Gazelah read the
history of the National Day of Prayer, and Eunice
Newkirk read a prayer for our nation. Carolyn
Mintz read about our missionaries and the WMU missionary
prayer calendar for the day. Eunice Newkirk then
led a prayer for our missionaries. After the
service everyone then enjoyed refreshments and
fellowship.
Wells Chapel
Hosts Firemen's Appreciation Dinner
On Monday, April 30, at 7:00PM Wells
Chapel Baptist Church hosted a Firemen's Appreciation
Dinner for the members of the Harrells Volunteer Fire
Department for their faithful service. Tables were
covered in red and white cloths and each table was
centered with firemen's helmets of different ranks.
A delicious meal of spaghetti, tossed
salad, garlic bread and sweet iced tea was served, along
desserts and coffee.
Jim Moody welcomed everyone, especially
the honored firemen, to the dinner. Moody emphasized to
the volunteer firemen how much they are appreciated.
"It takes hard work and dedication to keep a volunteer
fire department running. They help keep our
community safe. They answer calls in severe
weather or the dead of night. Whenever a call for
help goes out, they respond. We want them to know
we don't take them for granted," Moody said.
Moody asked for a moment of silence in
remembrance of the fallen firefighters of 9-11. He
then asked Harry Hoover to give the blessing.
Everyone then enjoyed the delicious food and the
fellowship that went along with it. There were
smiles all around!
Fire Chief George D. McGill thanked the
ladies of Wells Chapel for all the food they prepared.
"It was a special dinner shared with
some special firemen, and oh yes, a couple of special
fire ladies! It is our prayer that God will always
keep them safe and protected as they give their all to
help others," said a Wells Chapel spokesperson.
My Stressful
Day
By Carolyn
Horrell Mintz
Thank you Lord, I'm home at last
from such a long stressful day at work. It
seemed like everyone and everything was getting on
my last nerve. Difficult people, a demanding
boss, and not enough hours in the day! I'm so
glad to be home.
A nice cold glass of iced tea and my
favorite rocker on my front porch. At last, I'm
settled in for a well deserved rest. Oh, how
good it feels to just RELAX! The ice cold tea
is such a relief for my thirst.
What's that? It's birds
singing. What's that smell? It's the
sweet perfume of flowers, and there, I see
butterflies and bees in a nectar dance from blossom
to blossom. The gentle breeze gently blows the
leaves on the trees, making them sway slightly.
Oh Lord, what beauty you have
wrought, right outside my front door! What calm and
peace you have staged for me, free of charge. How
spectacular this world is that you have made for us!
Do I thank you enough my Lord for all that you have
done for me and all of your blessings freely given?
Did I remember to thank you for my
lunch today or for my job, even though some days
it's hard, at least I have a job to provide for my
family. For the opportunity to meet
people every day that I can be a witness to for you?
Did I remember to thank you Lord today for my
family, my church family, and for my health? I
have so much more to be thankful for than I do to be
upset about.
Yes Lord, I am tired. But am I
anymore tired than you were when you walked from
city to city to spread God's word? Do my feet
ache any worse than yours did? Must I deal
with people any more unreasonable and uncaring than
you did?
How stressful after all can my life
be compared to your life on Earth? When my
work is finished I come home and rest. When
your work was finished, you were crucified and died.
You loved and forgave even those who
crucified you. In pain and agony you laid down
your life to save the souls of everyone, even those
who took your life. Do I ,who profess to be a
Christian, forgive others for so much less an
offense than murder?
Am I more tired than you were?
Have I worked harder than you did? Sadly, no I
haven't. I haven't at all Lord. Maybe
I'm not quite so tired after all!
